Khiry White Receives Honorable Mention for the StatSheet MEAC Freshman of the Week - December 24th, 2012

North Carolina A&T's Adrian Powell has earned the StatSheet MEAC Player of the Week for the week ending December 24th. Coppin State's Sterling Smith has been recognized as StatSheet MEAC Freshman of the Week. Also, Troy Franklin from Coppin State is StatSheet's MEAC 6th Man of the Week. Powell put up respectable numbers with 3 assists per game, 60% shooting, and 16 points per game. The North Carolina A&T senior played well in a win against Eastern Kentucky.

This is the first time this season that Adrian Powell has been selected StatSheet MEAC Player of the Week. The runner-up this week is Jean Louisme, a senior from North Carolina A&T. Honorable mention goes to Lamont Middleton, a junior from North Carolina A&T. The highest ranking player from Savannah State was Preston Blackmon who finished 13th.

StatSheet MEAC Freshman of the Week: Coppin State's Sterling Smith

Sterling Smith played an average of 31 minutes starting both games for Coppin State. In a late 64-61 win over Towson, Smith rang up 7 points and 5 rebounds. Following that in an 80-50 loss to Iowa, he led all scoring and rebounding, putting up 9 points and 6 rebounds.

This marks the first time this season that Sterling Smith has won the StatSheet MEAC Freshman of the Week. The runner-up is Bruce Beckford from North Carolina A&T. Our own Khiry White receives honorable mention.

StatSheet MEAC 6th Man of the Week: Coppin State's Troy Franklin

Troy Franklin, a 5-11 Senior guard, averaged 23 minutes of action over the two games for the Eagles. In the win against Towson, Franklin put up 5 points and 4 assists. Then in the loss to Iowa, he led all scoring with 9 points and added 7 assists.

This is the first time this season that Troy Franklin has won the StatSheet MEAC 6th Man of the Week. Karamo Jawara, a sophomore forward from North Carolina Central, is the runner up. Tyshawn Bell, a sophomore forward from Delaware State, receives honorable mention. Savannah State has yet to win the StatSheet MEAC Player of the Week award this season.
